Born and raised in Calcutta, visual artist Swapan Roy has lived in a rural environment. After graduating in Commerce from a college in Calcutta, he studied at Indian Art College under Rabindra Bharati University from 1986 to 1990. And since then, he has devoted himself to his creativity and passion. He worked on the series of Krishna in his first solo exhibition in Kolkata, held in July 2010.
Swapan believes in choosing the path of harmony. He is, in fact choosing to spread this word through his works.
Over the years, his passion for the art world has grown incredibly. Buddha is one of the most reoccurring protagonists of his works. The artwork illustrates meditation and historical architecture in the background with birds flying across the infinite sky. Hence sharing his word- Tolerance, peace, and mindfulness. The world has changed, and so did moral values. Keeping this in mind, his artworks depict the values of Buddhism and philosophy.
Swapan has connected his style of art with his thoughts very artistically, in an imaginative manner. He believes that Goutam Buddha is the symbol of peace and spirituality. His painting depicted Buddha in different expressions and dispositions. He also presented Buddha in different forms and behaviors.
