Details of Exhibitions:
I m a self-taught artist, who has a passion and desire to draw, paint and weave. My works normally revolve around my life, culture, and reconstruction of ancient beliefs, customs and rituals. In contemporary society, we are constantly struggling to go back to our roots and maintain our ethnic identity.
I am born in Manipur, a small hilly state in NE India, where weaving is one of the main sources of livelihood. Most of my works are inspired by the lifestyle, culture, and folk & tribal art forms of Manipur.
In Manipur, the movement of painting is a late phenomenon. But, tapestries have always been there since time immemorial. Tapestry as an art form is unique in its own way.
I am always fascinated by the beautiful and delicate hand-woven works of my people.
Tapestry as a technique is what I m always inspired by. It’s a medium of rhythm. There is a strong sense of physical connection to the work of embodiment. The uniqueness, authenticity, scale, beauty and acoustic qualities of this art form.
My works of art act as a visual diary of my life. Sensorial memories of family, places and experiences are interpreted in my works, making the art deeply personal. These works vary in character and complexity. Some resonate with playfulness while others have more of an ethereal quality.
Many works of tapestries, we see in museums, palaces and rich peoples’ houses are works of artists interpreted by the artisans. Tapestries are woven directly by the painter, who created it remain an exception. Experience the luxurious feeling of woven art.
