Ashok N. Hinge: A Master of Conscious Expression
Ashok N. Hinge, a distinguished Mumbai-based visual artist with a Master of Fine Arts degree, has been a celebrated figure in the Indian art scene for over 25 years. His journey includes eight solo exhibitions — including two at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery — and participation in more than 50 group shows.
Hinge's artistic expression has evolved from his roots in calligraphy to a vibrant exploration of human figures, emotions, and the dynamic interplay of people and nature. His style uniquely blends structural precision with cosmic themes, using lines, colors, and shapes to build a visual language that bridges the conscious and subconscious. His works are known for evoking a trance-like emotional state, described by him as the "Incantation of Sensations."
His art is deeply rooted in the repetition found in nature — a primal rhythm that guides his compositions and adds a meditative quality to his visual narratives. This celestial rhythm, paired with organic geometry and crystalline imagery, forms a sensory symphony of light, space, and movement.
Beyond his studio practice, Hinge has conducted creative workshops, delivered demonstrations, and actively engaged with the art community. Notably, he has collaborated with Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar Sahab and been featured in interviews by renowned journalist and film critic Khalid Mohamed.
His work and vision have been spotlighted in leading magazines and newspapers, reinforcing his role as a public figure and respected artist. Noted exhibitions include Living Line, Incantation of Sensations, Matrix of Consciousness, and Commascapes, each showcasing the philosophical and emotional depth that defines his art.
