About Me – Lakhan Singh Jat
I’m Lakhan Singh Jat, a visual artist born in 1986 and raised in Kusany, a peaceful village near Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, India. Growing up surrounded by fields, mud houses, and traditional village life, I developed a deep connection with nature, people, and the emotions woven into everyday rural moments. These early experiences continue to shape my creative journey.
I completed my B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the Rajasthan School of Art in Jaipur, and since 2009, I’ve been working as a freelance artist. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to showcase my work in exhibitions across India.
My art is rooted in nostalgia and inspired by the simplicity and purity of rural life. Through the medium of acrylic on canvas, I try to capture the emotional richness of my childhood memories, rural landscapes, and the deep human connections that define us. My paintings often show children going to school, climbing trees, making toys, or riding buffalo - scenes that reflect innocence, joy, and freedom.
I believe there is a child within all of us - one that still wants to play, to be loved, and to be remembered. My work invites viewers to reconnect with that inner child, to pause, and to experience a moment of peace amidst the stress of modern life.
Under the theme “From Village to the Virtual World,” I also explore the rapid shift from traditional to digital living. I express the emotional gap that has grown as villages transform—mud houses replaced by brick, fields by buildings, and physical connection by virtual interactions. In my paintings, I try to bring the soul of my village back to life by painting old banyan trees, village games, scarecrows, and clustered huts—symbols of a fading way of life.
At the core of my work is the celebration of love and human emotions—be it between childhood friends, couples, or the quiet understanding between elders. My use of vibrant colors, traditional Rajasthani elements, and expressive figures aims to reflect the depth and variety of emotions we all share, regardless of where we come from.
Over the past two decades, my style has evolved, but my purpose remains the same: to tell honest, heartfelt stories through art. I want my paintings to feel alive - like memories you can walk into, feelings you can almost touch.
Thank you for being here. Through my art, I invite you to return to your roots, to feel love in its purest form, and to see the world through the eyes of a child once again.
