What is the meaning of Ashwamedha?
"Ashwamedha" is a Sanskrit term that literally translates to "horse sacrifice." In ancient Hinduism, particularly during the Vedic period, the Ashwamedha was a ritualistic practice conducted by kings to demonstrate their power, authority, and territorial dominance. It involved the ceremonial sacrifice of a horse, which was allowed to roam freely across neighboring lands for a certain period of time. The territory through which the horse traveled was considered to be under the dominion of the king who performed the ritual. The Ashwamedha was a highly prestigious and symbolic ritual, signifying the king's supremacy and sovereignty.
